Revit Dynamo script: Dual-Side Receptacle Placement for Revit MEP

This Dynamo script (v1.13.0) automates NEC-compliant receptacle placement on both faces of grouped wall segments in Revit MEP projects, optimizing electrical design for MEP engineers and BIM coordinators.

Key Features:

  • Places receptacles on interior and exterior wall faces with customizable spacing.
  • Groups connected walls for continuous placement (0.5 ft tolerance, 10° angle).
  • Ensures NEC compliance (e.g., 12 ft max spacing, 6 ft from start).
  • Outputs log file with placement details and task dialog for results.
  • Supports wall-hosted receptacle families at 0.15 ft height.

Inputs Required:

  • Element Selection: Walls (single or list, via Revit or Dynamo node).
  • Naming Conventions: None.
  • Template Application: Receptacle family type (e.g., “Duplex Receptacle”).
  • Geometric Parameters: Start offset (default 6 ft), spacing (default 12 ft).
  • Randomization Controls: None.
  • Color and Material Settings: None.
  • Level or Height Information: None (fixed at 0.15 ft above floor).

Outputs Generated:

  • Receptacles placed in the Revit model on both wall faces.
  • Log file (NECReceptaclesDualSideLog_[timestamp].txt) with placement and error details.
  • Task dialog summarizing groups processed and receptacle count.
  • Dynamo output with group labels and placement counts.

Instructions:

  1. Open Revit 2023–2025 with walls and receptacle family loaded.
  2. Launch Dynamo 2.17+; ensure RevitAPI/RevitServices are available.
  3. Add Python Script node, load Receptacle_Placement.py.
  4. Connect inputs: walls (IN[0]), receptacle family type (IN[1]), optional start offset (IN[2]), spacing (IN[3]).
  5. Run the script; verify receptacles in Revit.
  6. Check Desktop for log file and review task dialog.

Notes:

  • Ensure walls are properly modeled with valid geometry for face detection.
  • Minimum wall length must exceed start offset (6 ft).
