Revit Dynamo script: Beam Finish Layers for Revit

This powerful Dynamo script automates the application of finish layers to all sides of structural beams using wall and ceiling types, enabling accurate material schedules for construction documentation. Ideal for structural engineers, MEP coordinators, and BIM managers.

Key Features:

  • Applies wall-type layers to vertical and side faces of beams.
  • Applies ceiling-type layers to the bottom face.
  • Fully automates 6-sided beam coverage.
  • Generates Revit Material Takeoff schedules with precise quantities.
  • Works with any beam family and custom wall/ceiling types.
  • Includes detailed log output for validation.

Inputs Required:

  • Element Selection: Beams (select in Revit or via Dynamo).
  • Template Application:
    • Wall Type (e.g., “Concrete Finish Wall”) for sides.
    • Ceiling Type (e.g., “Gypsum Board Ceiling”) for bottom.
  • Geometric Parameters: None (uses type properties).

Outputs Generated:

  • Finish layers applied to all 6 sides of selected beams.
  • Revit Material Takeoff Schedule (auto-created or updated).
  • Log file: BeamFinishLog_[timestamp].txt on Desktop.

Instructions:

  1. Open Revit 2023–2026 with beams and desired wall/ceiling types.
