🔧 Two Ways to Model Coping in Revit

Method 1: Wall-Embedded Sweep Profile

You can embed any coping type directly into your wall types using Revit’s sweep function. Our Showroom file includes 25 Walls setup to get you started immediately.

How to Embed a 2D Coping Profile into an existing Wall Type?

The best practice is to embed the Wall Sweep into an existing Wall Type, here is how to do that in 5 steps:

  1. Select the desired Wall Type
  2. In the Properties tab, click “Edit Type”
  3. Go to the Structure section and click “Edit”
  4. At the bottom of the dialog, select the “Sweeps” tab
  5. Choose your desired coping profile

Method 2: Model In-Place with 2D Profiles

For more complex geometries (like curved or sloped walls), you can use the included 2D profiles with Revit’s Model-In-Place tools. We’ve prepared a step-by-step tutorial to walk you through the process.

How to Apply Wall Coping on a Sloped Wall

Since the embedded Sweep method has its limitations, use the Model-in-Place to model more complex Wall Coping in Revit:

  1. Use “Model In-Place” in the Component menu
  2. Select the wall as the working surface
  3. Choose the “Sweep” option
  4. Pick 3D edges for the sweep path
  5. Select the desired coping profile

How to Create a New Type of Wall Coping in Revit

  1. Open the Project Browser
  2. Find the coping family and expand the “+” to view available types
  3. Duplicate an existing type and rename it
  4. Adjust the dimensions to suit your project
